The quality of a table is set by the quality of its questions. Ask something specific and the same people who had nothing to say will not stop talking.
Try: what surprised you this week, what are you looking forward to, what would you do with a free Saturday, what did you believe five years ago that you no longer believe.
Bring three of them to the next dinner. Two will fall flat and one will run for an hour.
